Japanese want to ensure that their young citizens don't end up in the trap of smoking and destroy their lives and keeping their health in mind they have come up with an RFID based cigarette vending machine with face recognition software.

Recently in order to curb smoking habits among the underage more than 570,000 cigarette vending machines were fitted with RFID readers so that their age verification cards could be checked before cigarettes were dispensed to them. People without age verification cards could make purchases using the face recognition system which recognized the facial features of the person and in case it believed that the person is over the legal age of twenty then only the cigarettes were dispensed to them but one of the reporters managed to fool the system using fake pics of a fifty year old man and female celebrity in her thirties and get cigarettes for himself.

Realizing this folly the company is now working on advanced recognition which would be foolproof. Let's see when these machines make their mark and prevent the youngsters from spoiling their lives.

On the 100th birthday of Horn & Hardart, a look back at one of America’s most beloved institutions

A coin-operated glass-and-chrome wonder, Horn & Hardart’s Automats revolutionized the way Americans ate when they opened up in Philadelphia and New York in the early twentieth century. In a country where the industrial revolution had just taken hold, eating at a restaurant with self-serving vending machines rather than waitresses and Art Deco architecture instead of stuffy dining rooms was an unforgettable experience. The Automat served freshly made food for the price of a few coins, and no one made a better cup of coffee. By the peak of its popularity—from the Great Depression to the post-war years—the Automat was more than an inexpensive place to buy a good meal; it was a culinary treasure, a technical marvel, and an emblem of the times.

The Automat will take readers back to the days of Charles Lindbergh and Babe Ruth, Walter Winchell and Jack Benny, the Brooklyn Dodgers and shows at Radio City. You can buy nearly everything from a vending machine, what do you think about buying bike parts from a vender? In Madison, Wisconsin, you can do just that. The vending machine is called Trek Stop, among the things you can obtain through the machine would be patch kits, water bottle, energy bar, chain lube as well as items used for minor repairs like bike tire inner tubes, air hose, maps message board, bike standand a kiosk with video instructions on how to do various repairs. It also has an air pump for you to pump your tires. The concept is a good one if it wasn't situated in front of a bike shop. It would be better situated in places where bike shop can't afford to rent as it will help its business as well as any cyclist in the area.
